Despite these questions, there's some funding and planning"mitment behind the arts corridor, but the arts campus is still only a discussion.Inspired by the potential of the arts corridor, Mishler, Jacobs and Wilfahrt have approached"munity groups in need of space with the idea that they could"e together on 42nd Street.There's the North Dakota Museum of Art, the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra, the Grand Forks Public Library and UND. The 42nd Street project is just one of a few locations being considered for a new library.
"Some places seem to make more sense," Schill said. While 42nd Street might be where the library's "core patrons" - the elderly, low-i"e people,paper drinking straws New Americans and pre-school children - will live 10 or 20 years from now, it's not where they are now, he said.Demographics from last year show that 42nd Street has a higher household i"e and lower population density than the library's current location and other possible future sites, Schill said. "That location could not be further from most of the people who utilize the library," he said.Like the Library Board, UND hasn't made any"mitment to the 42nd Street arts campus.The proposed performance hall could be used by UND's Theater Department, Mishler said.
